Pages doesn't show thumbnails in Media window

I have a problem with Pages:

my iPhoto library has 10000 pictures and when opening the media window in Pages, I just
can see the tumbnails name - the thumbnails itself however remain blank.
iPhoto has no problems displaying them correct. Even I had rebuild the library of iPhoto - the problem remained.

What I did so far:
- check permissions (with the library I couldn't do this, since it resides on another drive without OS X installed. Then no permissions can be repaired....hmmm)
- rebuild iphoto library
- created a new library for testing - there Pages has no problem displaying all thumbnails.....!!!!

Any suggestion?
