I've been using a CD-RW to make backups of files I'm working on, but to do so requires me to delete the whole disk and re-save everything on it each time I want to back up a single file (ie. at least once a day). Of course, this is a drag...

So what I was wondering is whether there is an app out there that will make a CD-RW behave like a HD or floppy drive - you just save the files to the disk and tell it to overwrite the old copy, and the app takes care of the deleting and resaving of the file (and everything else) automatically. Does anyone know of an app that does this?

Cheers!

The Roxio Toast program will partially do what your asking. Just drag and drop the new files into the Toast window and burn them as an addition to what is already on the disc. If you can get a copy of the manual look under the section titled "Making a Multisession Disc"

You would still need to erase the old file. You can't simply 'overwrite' a specific file like you can on a hard drive. That's not possible on a CD-RW. That's because of the way sectors are partitioned on the disc.

Multisession burning is not the same as packet writing. This has come up a few times for discussion--it would be great if Tiger included this feature, but I don't think it will happen.

Edit: After reading my own post, I realized it may seem somewhat cryptic. The short answer to the OP: it can't be done (as yet, in OS X). This is one area where XP has the advantage.
