my machine was beginning to get bogged down, so I backed up all of my data and reimaged my machine. everything fell back into place swimingly, except for iphoto 4.

I backed up my iphoto library directory, and have tried replacing the new directory that iphoto builds, but nothing happens. I had intended to buy ilife05 anyways, so now seemed like a good time. but once I do a clean install of iphoto 5, I'm running into the same problem. when I try to run iphoto5 for the first time and it asks me to select my old library, it won't allow me to click the directory. it just "bonks" at me... you know, the bonking error sound.

I've made sure that the permissions are set so that I have read/write access to everything in the old iphoto directory, so I'm not sure what the problem could be. any ideas?

Did you try creating a new folder and dragging the contents of your old iPhoto Library folder into it, and then selecting it from iPhoto?

Just a random thought.

Do you have r/w permissions to the old directory itself (not just its contents)?

yes I do... I made sure of it I've also run repair permissions several times, to no avail.

I'm actually at the point now where I can import all of the photos, and while iphoto lists all of my old albums, they're empty. this means that I have 4000 pictures just randomly tossed into my photo library. sigh.
