I heard a rumor somewhere that Tiger will provide an API for third party developers to allow their applications to be updated by Software Update, the current utility that Apple uses to update the OS.

If so, I think this is awesome, but aren't there some major security concerns with that?

Like what? I don't see what's insecure about a central update database.

Like that fact that the utility used to update the OS obviously has permissions to do so. If third-party developers have access to this utility, who knows?

It could be the dumbest question ever, I was just asking.

I kinda thought along the lines of IE being so insecure because it is tied to the OS so tight and used for OS updates.

Wasn't there also a rumor that that feature was axed? I think that they didn't continue with it because they couldn't guarantee the reliability of third-party updates.
