Hello all. I'm quite new to iMovie, and was wondering if there's a way to blur a particular part of a movie (someone's face so they can't be identified) since I haven't found anything in the forums or the Help file.

Also - and less importantly - how would i add an mp3 as background music to a part of a movie? I understand that there are extracted and imported video tracks but am unsure as to how to get it onto a particular part of the movie. It's just an mp3 I have in iTunes.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Not sure how to answer the first part of your question.

As for adding an mp3 or any audio file, option-click to download this short tutorial movie. It shows how to add audio straight from your iTunes library. You can also simply drag audio clips into your project (where the video clips normally live) and then drag them down into the movie timeline. In other words, you can treat them just like video clips. Just remember that there are two 'views' of your iMovie project 'Clip View' and 'Timeline View' which are toggle by the two buttons to the bottom left of the movie window. If you put your project in 'Timeline View' you will see that you have 3 tracks (1 video, 2 audio) that you can simply drag-and-drop what you want, where you want. If you are looking at your project in 'Clip View', you won't see that you have these 3 tracks available.

Thanks a lot! As for the first question, I seem to have found a solution with a program called Hide on Versiontracker, although it's a bit clumsy. Thanks though!

There are various third party plug-ins for iMovie that extend the options for the effects and transitions available in the app. The large majority are shareware although most offer a few freebie plug-ins to let you try them out. I forget which of the following offers it, but one of the freebies available does offer the localised blurring you want:

Edit 2: It was in Jerry's Effects Pack v1.3 and is called "Rhesus Pieces". Examples of the effects available are in the lower half of this page
