Here is an unadvertised feature of GarageBand that really would have sold me on it (if I hadn't already bought it! )
Now there's no more need for a USB keyboard if you just want to do some quick input!
Joy! Discover anything else new?
(I'm still trying to figure out how to draw the notes in, if there's a way to do it)

It does it automatically when you use a real instrument track. I'm at work, so I can't describe exactly how it's done, though.

Right, it does it also when using the keyboard input I showed, too (although input was jerky on my iMac 800 when I tried it... surprised, hopefully my midi instruments keep up at full speed over USB).
I was just wondering if I could click and drag notes to recreate existing sheet music in GarageBand - I could hear a perfectly performed version of the song.

if this is possible, I'm buying myself a copy. only problem I had with the last GarageBand was that it was just too hard to do any messing around without some actual midi gear. I play the clarinet, and only as a hobby... I'm not good with pianos (although I can manage) and going out to buy equipment isn't really within my price range for what I'll spend on this hobby... but I'm intimately familiar with sheet music, and I'd love to be able to just drag stuff from a palette...

Yep, musical notation is a big addition to GB.

I've only played with it once, but you can move the notes around. My wife is the musical person in the house. I just like playing around with the technology and making stupid songs with the loops.

This is a rather pleasing feature that seems to have made the migration from ProApp to iApp. I've grown used to it in Logic, nice to see it in GarageBand.

Do you mean the musical typing, or the music notation?
And does anyone know how to drag and place individual notes onto the paper without using an input device (whether with musical typing or a midi) ?

If you don't read music, I think you could probably just bash out an E repeatedly on the keyboard, then just go back and drag each note up (or down) to where you want it on the scale. The timing is probably changeable from a popup.
I remember doing this in v1.0 using the "block" notation, but I'm not 100% certain because I'm still waiting for iLife '05 here in Oz. (Hoping to see a Mac mini tomorrow too.)
