Hi,

I have 3 mail accounts that I use, but almost always only send from one. However, mail.app keeps setting one of the other accounts as the send address when I create a new mail, and I have to manually change it.

I've missed this a couple of times and want to be able to specify a default address to always used unless I specify one of the others on an individual basis.

Can I do this, as I couldn't find anything in the account setup area to make it happen.

Cheers,

J.

Drag the account you want to send from to the top of the list in the drawer. That should do it.

kcmac, thanks for that. I can't believe it's that easy, but so very mac like.

Afraid that didn't do the trick. This morning the secondary address has been coming up as the default on new mails. Checked the account placing and it's still good (required account at top of list). So I'm not quite sure what's not working right.

Anyone?

What can easily happen is if you have a mailbox or message selected, then Mail will try to send the mail from that account.

This messes me up at work frequently and I accidentally send email from my personal account.

Personally, I think Apple should allow you to set a default account for sending mail (i.e. new messages are always created with that account, no matter what you have selected). Naturally, replying to a message from a non-primary account would send it from the appropriate account.

Hi wade, yes you're spot on. I also did some searching around the web and found this referenced elsewhere too. That explains exactly why it's happening. Damn silly if you ask me, but I can see why it might be done.

I'll put the suggestion in on the apple site and see if it ever gets implemented in future releases.

Cheers,

J.
