Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but...I'm looking to get some labels for my growing cd/dvd collection. What do you folks use? Are they easy to put on, or should I invest in one of those thingies that put the label on for you? Thanks.
Tom

I use the "thinkie" that puts it on for you. They only cost about $20 as part of a package with blank labels. When you need more labels, just buy the pack without the "thingie".

With the pre-cut labels usually.
Sometimes you have to buy a ' starter kit' that comes with a bunch of labels and a more substantial 'positioning device'. But most I have bought have had a small round plastic lump that sits on the middle of the CD's so I can position the stickers.
Sorry about links to UK Staples site, you need a US Zip to browse there US site

Installing the labels onto the CD/DVD is easy -- the harder part is creating them. Most packages you buy in the store don't have software with them. Even if they did, most likely they wouldn't be compatible with OS X.
If you look on www.MacUpdate.com you can find information on DiscLabel and UnCoverIt. I use both of these programs depending on the type of label I need. They support a wide range of readily available labels.
Good Luck!

You could also get blank CDs/DVDs (if you have a suitable printer) that let you print directly onto the media.
FYI, there are two camps when it comes to using DVD labels. Some swear that they can mess up DVD players, others swear just as vociferously that they don't make any difference. I haven't formed an opinion as yet, but if you have any data, please share

I have put labels on many CDs and have not had any problems. In fact, I've inadvertantly left them in the CD changer in the car for weeks at a time in the summer--the car can get pretty hot--and there were not any problems. Probably not the best thing to do, but...
As far as label making software, an application called Discus www.magicmouse.com works very well. It's pretty reasonably priced and there's a free trial version too.
