Masking images in Pages, Kenote... shapes?

Ideally I'd like to mask images as shapes, i.e. masking a picture to give it a circular shape. I poked around quite a bit, and it seems as using a rectangle is the only way to go... correct?

As far as I can tell, you are correct - you can only use the masking function with a rectangular shape (which you can rotate).
