Hello
I did try a search for this but it seems that the answers are a variant:
for my daughters birthday she is getting an iPod mini. I have an ipod 30G we have one computer.
all are CD's are owned by us. are two itunes libraries set up? rather than re insert 5 gb of my CD's, can tunes be moved manually?
I know this is a little touchy with apple and others, and her ipod mini is 4 or 5 G,
I think you all get the idea here
thanks rotut

just use a different user account for your daughter and copy the songs she want to the shared folder, so she can copy that music to here iTunes library.
(note: the person who puts files in the shared folder is the one who can delete it)

We have several ipods using one laptop. I have all the music in the "shared" folder. THen everyone sets up their own individual playlists, and manually syncs their personal ipod to their own playlists.
It works very well. No problems to speak of.

How do you manually synch each iPod? Do you set preferences so that the iPod update is not automatic?

Yes.
You'll be given the option when you first connect a new iPod to the computer, and can set it thereafter using iTunes.
