When trying to download applications via Safari or Firefox, my browser (after clicking on the download button) took me to a new page and in 2 seconds came back to the original page without downloading anything. (I tried to download Mousepose, Preferential Treatment, Onyx, and a few others, all with the same results.) When I used Opera, I had no problem. Now I've downloaded with Safari and Firefox in the past. What is going on?

Is this with a specific site or all sites?

I just clicked on one of those links, and it opened a window, began a download, and then closed the window.
You may need to unblock pop-ups or something...
(I'm using OmniWeb and have it set to disallow pop-ups except in response to a link being clicked, and the downloads worked fine)

Yeah, I download from them, too, when I use Opera.
My Safari is set to allow popups. Firefox blocks them but always asks if you want to allow them. I didn't get that dialog box for these websites. Plus, I disabled popups in Firefox and the same thing happened again.

Try logging in as another user and seeing if that works.

I logged in as a different user on Safari, and I was able to download. What does that mean that I need to do?
Another piece of information: I was wondering if it was due to recently updating to 10.3.7. As suggested on macfixit. I cleared my java cache, which allowed me to stay longer at the download pages than before, but I still couldn't download. Other suggestions, which I can try when I'm at school, are reinstalling Java 1.4.2 and resetting Safari. But I'm not sure how that's related to being able to download when logged in as another user.

Well, I reinstalled Java 1.4.2 and reset Safari, but it didn't help. But logging in as another user did. What does that mean I should do?

Well, someone helped me figure it out. It seems that my Speed Download was creating the problem. Once it was uninstalled, I had no problem downloading in Safari.
Many thanks to those who took the time to try to help.
