So I have my wheel click set as CMD+Click so that it opens links in new tabs in Firefox. That is all fine and dandy. But when I want to close tabs, middle clicking it doesn't close it. I end up right clicking it and selecting "close tab". I couldn't find anything in the prefs that will allow me to change this. How can I change it so that tabs close when I click the tab with the middle click? Thanks.

I've been looking for a way to do this as well, with no luck. Works fine on my PC, but not on my Mac.

Middle-click doesn't work in Firefox 1.0. This is a very well-known bug.

It is fixed on the trunk, so either wait until 1.1 or use a nightly build.

And do a search next time.

The only thing more annoying than those who don't search, are those who say "do a search".

Thanks for informing me of the popularity of the problem. I did do a search to no avail, I apologize for the huge inconvenience I must have bestowed upon you.

But I do know that a search should be executed before posting a question, it has been stated MANY times before. Maybe you should search for threads that have "do a search next time".

Middle-clicking the tab in linux doesn't close the tab, either. And wataru, this isn't the same issue as middle clicking not working in OS X. The middle click correctly opens a new tab, it just doesn't close that tab.

As a whole, I did not know that middle clicking the tab itself is actually supposed to close it. And while this isn't exactly what you want, I would recommend just using command-W to close tabs. It should be faster than clicking on the tab, anyway.
