I have not yet been able to open an AppleWorks file in Pages.

The first was the minutes of our MUG meeting (created in AppleWorks 5):

The document was created with an unsupported version of AppleWorks

A friend of mine has a document he created in 6, but that had a spreadsheet in the WP document:

The AppleWorks document has an unsupported file type

Oh dear.

Not to discredit your problems, but I have opened many AppleWorks documents without issue. A few have slight layout issues, but very minor. Keep at it

iWork '05 has no spreadsheet, so I suppose it makes some sense that it wouldn't be able to open spreadsheets. This is one of the reasons I still think it's not a suitable replacement for AppleWorks yet. Fortunately, it is rumored that a spreadsheet is coming. I may look into getting iWork then.

The fact that it wouldn't be able to work AW5 docs, however, is somewhat disturbing. Try opening the document in AW6, saving it in that format, and then reopening it in Pages.

It would be nice if Apple opened the older AppleWorks formats, so that people could write converters.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

But iWorks supports tables. It could just turn a spreadsheet into into a table.

The lack of support of AW 5 is in my opinion, shocking.
