Will iWork open up a Word file which has images in it, so that the images can be exported or copied over to Photoshop for saving as TIFF? At the moment we get a lot of 'supplied artwork' as Word files, which we have to transfer to PC to get the images because TextEdit opens Word files without showing pictures. I know without asking that the boss will not be impressed with paying for MS Office basically to just do this with it. iWork might be possible though.
Edit: Might have a few problems, both Macs here have CDRW drives, not DVD, and we don't have any version of iLife (which is 'recommended'), this is a Quicksilver G4 800, the other is a Graphite 500 or 533 (not sure of that one), both run OS X 10.3. Minimum spec for iWork is a 500MHz Mac (G3, G4 or G5).

Yep, images in Word documents show up fine, and can be copied into Photoshop or any other app.
iLife really isn't needed, unless you want to use the media browser in each app, to find photos from iPhoto or Audio from iTunes.

Thats ok then, thanks PG. Still screwed if it isn't available on CD though. Like I said, these macs just have the CD-R drives . Also, will the same copy run on 2 Macs on a network, or will we need 2 copies?

You can actually buy a CD version of iWork on the AppleStore - just do a search for 'iWork' and you will see there is a DVD and a CD version listed.
No network issues with it detecting the same copy running over the network. Or so I have heard Legally of course, provided you own both machines, you should only use one copy at a time. However there are no technicalities making sure this is the case. (ala MS Office)
