I have just started using iMovie. The software is great and relatively easy to use. I have two questions.

Let's assume that I place in two pictures and both of those would be displaying for 5 seconds. I then select both of them and crease a 1 second cross dissolve transition. The full movie length now reduced to 9 seconds. Why? Is there a way to keep it at 10 seconds?

Then let's say I created a movie showing images. The movie is 10 minutes long. I want to change one of the images' displaying lenght. This image is somewher around 4 minutes. If I change the display length of that one image, will the rest of the images pushed out by that amount of time without re-rendering?

Thanks,

t

I think a dissolve overlaps the frames for the length of the dissolve, so the total time decreases. You can increase the total time to 10 by lengthening the time of one or both frames. In the clip viewer, double-click on the frame and a dialog box will open allowing you to change the duration. In the timeline view, you can just drag the edges of the frame to change duration, although you might have to remove the transition first, then reapply it.

I'm not sure I understand your second question, but generally, if you increase the duration of any clip, it will increase the duration of the whole movie.
