It will take a long time for you to transcode a DVD to VCD. First you have to rip the DVD to your hard drive and then transcode it into VCD format.

Each VCD can hold approximately 45 minutes to an hour. The quality won't be as good either. You'll also lose the ability to switch between audio tracks and subtitles with ease.

It would be easier to buy an external Firewire DVD burner. They're pretty cheap nowadays....

Ditto... the trouble of converting a DVD into a VCD is not worth the time and effort. Just buy a cheap DVD burner.

Loads of good info at the link below. My guess is that you'd want to make SVCD's instead of VCD's.

If you really want to make a DVD into a VCD, then Roxio's Toast is your friend. Set it to make a VCD and drop any QuickTime-compatible movie (you can use other formats too, if you can download the proper software to make QuickTime play it) into the window, and it will do the rest

As others have noted, you probably want an SVCD rather than a VCD, but a cheap DVD burner really is the best option.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!
