I did read the other iWork thread... doesn't answer my question exaclty.

I just bought iWork for my new powerbook. installed with no problem. i am curious if it is possible to install it on the Mac Mini as well that I may get in a few months, or will it not work since the serial number has been used already on the powerbook? I heard a while ago that some software is ok to install on a laptop as well as a desktop without violating the license agreement.

Not much of an "agreement", is it, if you don't even know what you've supposedly agreed to? You bought the software, go ahead and use it on any and all Macs you own. That's what I do.

I just installed iWork on my iMac. I don't think the serial number was sent with the registration to Apple because there was a "Register Later" button. If registration was required for activation, they probably wouldn't give you that option. This is only me making educated guesses, though -- I don't know for sure.

I would (continue) to assume that iWork probably checks over a LAN, if you're connected to one, for other copies running with the same serial number. This is pretty common.

As for the license, it restricts you to installation on one computer only at a time:

This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single computer at a time. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time.
