I'm pretty sure this coincides with the latest version update. Safaris has been rediculously slow at rendering web pages lately. Practically every site I visit loads faster on Firefox - by a lot - these days. This wasn't the case a while back - they seemed more or less neck and neck for a while.

Anyone else suffering the same lag? Any suggestions as to why MY safari might have slowed to molasses speed?

Thanks.

I think so too. I've deleted my cache and used a CSS to block ads, and I did everything Mac OS X Hints has ever published on speeding up Safari and Camino still beats it hands-down. I'm sure Firefox is no exception either. IF you haven't looked at Camino lately, look again. Grab a nightly though, not the official .8 build. Then grab Camino Extraprefs (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16078) and enjoy the browsing experience all over again. I will say that Firefox's main strength is the extension collection. But if you want a simple browser that runs more efficiently (using less RAM and virtual RAM), try Camino if Safari isn't working for you. I like Safari, but I find Camino hard to beat right now.

I don't understand why people don't simply deactivate the cache. Much better. Safari is much quicker on 10.3.8.

Airport express, and I hate to think I'm missing out on the post 10.3.8 Safari speediness. Even after emptying the cache it's still a good bit slower.

Randman do you use Safari enhancer? I may give that a look.

I'm obbviously missing something, but the lag is real. I have never complained about safari before...

Yes, I've used Safari Enhancer. Have the cache deactivated and the flavicon folder locked. I also don't use Autofill > Others much. With 10.3.8, it's much faster (I have AirPort Extreme station). And the last build of pithhlemet didn't slow things down as previous versions have.

I'll just follow up by mentioning that:

I tried safari enhancer, to no effect. Maybe I've just reached the safari speed tipping point.

However, the latest v of camino seems like it might be ready to take its place (posting this message on camino).

MUCH faster than safari.

Camino is super-fast and it packs some nice features not in Safari. Enjoy! Maybe Safari will be better in Tiger.

i tried both camino and firefox last night and for some reason they were both hideously slow and barely loaded, then my AIM connection fried as well and i just had a very small conenction to the internet, same thing this morn. Then i put safari on and all seemed to gradually go back to normal. I think apple secretly knew i was thinking of switching

Just for the hell of it make a new user and try safari from there. That will rule out any bookmark or user prefs issues.
