Huh? MenuMeters v1.2 is by Raging Menace, not Unsanity.

MUMenu v2.1.1: MUMenu is a Menu Item application that will check periodically for daily Mac OS X software updates at MacUpdate. You'll be able to browse small descriptions of the updated products, go to More Info pages, and download them. Highlighted updates (Hot Picks) are highlighted in red, and applications that are already installed on your Mac will display its appropriate icon. When a new update is posted, MUMenu icon in the menu bar will change color.

If your menu bar becomes too crowded, Mail.app works great with gmail's pop3 service. It will notify you right from the dock.

I love MenuMeters. I second that choice! It's great for my 12" PowerBook which has squeeze more into a 1024 x 768 screen.

I use SlimBatteryMonitor as well. It provides a smaller battery indicator than Apple's built-in monitor. It can also hide the battery monitor when I am fully charged.

I am currently using iClock. It's expensive at $20.00 but I like to replace Apple's menubar clock with a clock that can also show different cities and different times. Unfortunately it tries to do too much (hence the expensive price). I just use it for world clock function only. I've tried others but I just seem to go back to iClock. There are other menubar clock replacements (some free, some shareware) available but I'm stuck on iClock. iClock also puts a running applications menu on the menubar. it has a stopwatch function, alarm function (remind me in XX minutes), stock portfolio ticker, and mini-calendar. The world clock in my menu bar helps me when I call friends and business associates in different time zones.

I was partial to MenuTunes (about $15). It controls iTunes from the menu bar but I've since turned to SizzlyKeys4iTunes (free). SizzlingKeys4iTunes is not a menu extra but it's an awesome way to control iTunes similar to MenuTunes. MenuTunes and iTunes can float a translucent window with the current song, artist, and trackname for a few seconds before it disappears.

Not necessarily a menubar extra but I love DragThing. I've also heard good things about LaunchBar and QuickSilver.

So, not all the cool GUI enhancements are in the menubar as well!!!!

F10 is a wonderful application launcher. Menu meters is one I'd pay for. I'm also fond of slim battery monitor (gives you more options), dotmac menu (gives you info on your dotmac account and access to various parts of your iDisk). CalendarClock is nicer and has more functions than the normal clock. Winswitch is great for saving space if you have Fast User Switching. There's also a couple of free hacks to colorize your Airport and bluetooth icons. F10 is shareware, and I think Calendarclock now is. The rest are all free.

BTW, you can also simply have gmail forward a copy to your Mail.app and it'll show in the menubar.
