have a large number of photos (4000+) on my power book that i want to put on my iMac in the same format that they are stored on the pb (i.e they're arranged by roll).

Is there a simple way to preserve the format such as just copying the iPhoto library from the pb to iM, or will this import all the deleted photos as well?

If you copy the entire iPhoto Library folder from the Pictures folder of one machine to the Pictures folder of the other, everything should show up on the second machine the same as it did on the first, with the exception of probably having to reset some settings in the preferences.
