Trying to install legal, full boxed copy of iLife on G4, OS 10.3.latest, using the DVD copy of the software (the CD copy of iLife won't load as the system says "you have a DVD - use it to load..."). Drive is a Pioneer DVD 107, internal drive (works fine).

When I go to install the software the following happens:

1. Tells me it's "reading pacakages"
2. Says "...installer package needs to run a program to determine if it can be installed. Do you want to continue?"
3. I click "continue"
4. Then I get this message:

"Welcome to iLife Installer
iLife cannot be installed on this computer.
This installation cannot proceed because one of the following applications is running:
GarageBand
iTunes
iPhoto
iMovie
iDVD
Please quit these apps before installation."

5. None of these apps, nor anything else is running.

Any Ideas???

Thanks,

Felix

I would take a look at Activity Monitor to check for any unusual processes. Or, just hold down shift during startup for "safe mode" where nothing but the OS is running and try running the installer again.

iTunesHelper, which squirrelled its way on to my machine with a recent iTunes update, maybe confusing the installer.

Remove it from your Startup items (System Prefs, Accounts, Startup Items) and then try installing iLife again.
He that will eat the kernel must crack the nut.
