Since installing 10.3.8 i haven't been able to use any of fireworks, flash and dreamweaver mx 2004, the programs start, show the splash screen, then the toolbars and i get an unexpected error message.

Was wondering if something in 10.3.8 upset it or if anyone else has had this problem and managed to fix it. I have deleted all the macromedia folders from my applications dir, is there more [i.e library files] i need to trash before reinstalling it to get it to go.

The only other thing i can think of thats changed in the last month is some deleting of classic files, none macromedia though.

Sorry, not coming up with any information through Google. What are the crash logs saying?

I had a similar problem a while ago, although with MX (not MX 2004) apps. I had to delete and reinstall as root (!!). There's details for this in Macromedia's Knowledgebase.
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.
