I came across this concept draw about how the developers of NeoOffice/J (which is based on the famous Word competitor OpenOffice.org) are planning to make it look like in the future:
This is the thread on their forums: http://trinity.neooffice.org/modules...opic&t=995

And here's the picture:

What do you think of it?

They are looking for further helping hands, btw, so if you think you can help, got to their forum at www.neooffice.org
Scarcely pausing for breath, Vroomfondel shouted, "We DON'T demand solid facts! What we demand is the total ABSENCE of solid facts. I demand that I may or may not be Vroomfondel!"

Wow, that looks much nicer than the current interface! I wish I could lend a hand, but I'm no programmer.

I like the tabs at the top! I'm looking for a word processor that allows for tabbed writing, much like tabbed browsing. Especially if you could then "merge" the tabs into one document. When you're writing a long, complicated paper it would be much easier to deal with certain sections at one time, but only be a tab-click away from the other sections. Then, when it's all finished you could combine them all in the proper order. I don't think any word processors do this yet, but maybe that mock-up is a sign of possibilities.
