Question: How can I not have the .mac screensaver appear in the list of screensavers on the preference panel? Why? I have my screensaver settings on random pick. When it picks the .mac screensaver the screen goes black and a text message appears saying that I do not have any subscriptions chosen. I do not nor do I plan to have a .mac account so I want to 86 the screensaver from the list of screensavers appearing in the preference pane. The screensaver is not listed in any of the screensaver files in system folder, HD library and home/library/screensavers. Where is it? Is my request feasible? Thank you in advance for any and all guidance given.

Mine shows whats called the public slideshow (with images it must have downloaded without asking me). I tried command dragging it out of the pane but that didn't work so I'm out of ideas.

You don't need .Mac to see .Mac screensavers. Just select the members you want to see the screensavers of and you're done.

If you want to completely disable it, you need to move it out of the folder /System/Library/Screen Savers/ and put it somewhere else. Since the .Mac screensaver begins with a dot you can not see it, so you must use some other program but the Finder to move it.

In terminal:

sudo rm /System/Library/Screen\ Savers/.Mac.slideSaver

Or use an app like TinkerTool to make the Finder display invisible files.

Or!

Try what I did, use RandomExtra

Lets you chose which out of all your screensavers you see.

Don't know if it'll accomplish the same thing (since I only use Solar Winds) but I managed to delete what was in the Subscriptions area and uncheck most of the checkboxes there.

Frankly, I'm just going to delete it completely now.

That's what I want to do; completely delete the .mac screensaver all together. Have you figured out a way to do it? Please let me know how to achieve that if you do. That screensaver is such an annoyance. I don't use .mac and I don't ever plan on using it on my current machine so I want to get rid of it. I am using an app called RandomSaver that allows me to choose which savers I want to use out of my entire list but I really want to completely get rid of the .mac saver so that it doesn't show up on my list of screensavers at all. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

As I already said, the screensaver is here but invisible because it starts with a dot. Delete it using the Terminal, PathFinder, or Finder with invisible files turned on.

Thanks for that heads up on the .mac screensaver being an invisible file. I don't think I would have come to that conclusion for some time. You R awesome !!! Now I can be rid of that annoying bit. Of course I'll save it just in case. Thanks again for all your guidance my brothers. Peace.
