i've recently switched from windows and one thing which is driving me nuts is the fact that none of the apps i'm running automatically increase the highlighted area to include entire words. ie. if i highlight 'automatically' but start at the o, windows will decide to highlight the entire word while on my new machine the 'aut' wil stay unhighlighted. the windows system is occasionally annoying, but it's less annoying that having to hit the exact point on the word you want to cut and paste.
i'm not sure if this is an os x thing or an app thing but figured i'd post here to see if anyone could help me out. i'm using neooffice/j for my word processing but none of the other apps (nvu, safari frinstance) i use seem to do it either. is there an overriding default setting for this or is this in each app? or am i out of luck? i notice that ms word for mac does have the option of doing this but i'm not exactly dying to shell out for that...
cheers all!

If you want to select an entire word, double-click it. If you want to select an entire line, triple-click.
If you want to select multiple words in entire-word increments, double-click a word but don't release at the second click, then start dragging.

Triple-clicking on text in Safari usually selects the line you're clicking on, but in text fields it follows Mac convention by selecting paragraphs.

Now that's one I never knew about!
