Well i finally got my MPEG2 editor ad on from Apple for QTPro
it barelyworks. most of the time I get the spining colored circle, and have to do a force quit. sometimes its open a file, but the various movie bars ( play spot, and the edit bars) move like molassas or not at all.
is thiss right? Im OS 10.3.4 and QT 6.5
as it stands its worthless to me. I have MPEG2 files Ive been recording from m6y DIVCO HDTV card and bought MPEG2 add on to edit them and convert them to smaller files. MPEG Streamclip just does the whirling colored circle and doen't open any ting
any healp much apprecieated.

What hardware do you have and why are you still running 10.3.4?

The MPEG2 component has to scan the entire file before it does anything. That's the beachball you're seeing. If you let it sit long enough, it should recover.

Ive added to my sig. the computer system I have. I haven't updated to 10.3.8 as I was concerned that the version of the AlchemyDVR I use is not the latest ( i use 10101) as it has an 'excel' like scheduled recordings list
Ill put 10.3.8 on a seperate HD and then can check that out there.
my concern was the editing triangles don't seem to let you 'cut'
I tried exporting to a 3ivx file but the sound did not recompress. I thought that Id export than edit second.
will let you know re 10.3.8 when I get to that installation.
thanks so far!

Note that it is called " MPEG-2 Playback Component" on Apple's site. Nowhere is anything said about editing existing content (and I don't think QT Pro can edit MPEG files [losslessly]), you'll probably have to use MPEG Streamclip for that.
The sound issue is also covered in the FAQ ("the ability to transcode MPEG-2 audio is not supported"). MPEG Streamclip has a function to demux AIFF audio from MPEG files, so use that to get audio extracted.

You can't record to MPEG2, just playback with the add-on. Even then, you might find the freeware VLC to be smoother at playback of MPEG2 content.
A lot of content is jerky on Quicktime with the MPEG2 add-on on G4 hardware.
