I've got several sets of FilemakerPro files and need to combine (concatenate) them. They are identical in field structure; I just need to add the 150 records of one to the end of another file of several hundred records.

There is no "append" command. No ref to such in a Visual QuickPro Guide (I'm still at FMP 6.0). Weird: long ago I used FoxPro for Mac and "append" was a standard command.

There is an "import" option under file menu: but only allows import of txt files (or pix). Can this really be an omitted feature? (Is it there in FMP 7?)

¿Will I have to EXPORT to txt any file that I want to append and then IMPORT txt to FM?

I sure appreciate any guidance!

You can import Filemaker files under File... Import... At least you can in my version, 5.5.

Thanks, Philm...

I was misunderstanding - trying to import a FOLDER of files at a time. When I import only one file at a time it does work. :time for more coffee:

I don't have FMP7 yet, but see if you can command-click on multiple files in the Import... window.

For good reasons, FileMaker will only import single databases at a time (the UI for importing multiple databases with the possibility of multiple structures would be just nasty). The import folder command in FM6 is for importing data into records (one record per file), and is not what you are looking for.

What you want to do is to open the file you are going to import from, do a find so that only the records you want to pull over are selected (if you want all of them, then "show all records"). Then open the file you want things imported into, and select "Import" (from file). Then you just walk through the process of matching up the fields, and let it import the new records.... Oh... and along the way you will want to select "add new records".
