A long time ago when I first got Mac OS X, I had a bunch of DiVX files and found a program that let me play them in QuickTime. Basically it took the video and audio out of the AVI wrapper and put them into a QuickTime wrapper. But now that you can play AVI's in QT w/ the help of codecs and VLC, is there anyway to return them to .avi? I'd like to share these videos with my PC friends but I'm not aware of DiVX codecs for QT on Windows.

Try with ffmpegX using passthrough for both audio and video.

3ivx will let them play those files in winQT, and should (not completely sure) let them play in any DirectShow app (like WMP). Also VLC will play them out-of-the-box, as they say.
