HI

I have recently purchased a copy of virtual pc 5 quite cheaply. However, I am finding that it runs exceptionally slow, even booting windows 98se.

Does anybody know where I could purchase an upgrade for the application, as it is version 5.0 at the moment, and i understand there were later releases of version 5.

Also, any suggestion as to why it runs slow?

thanks, james

It runs slow 'cause it's VPC. Connectrix sold VPC to Mickeysoft. The current version is 7.something. I understand that it's speeded up, but not by much. I don't know if Mickeysoft will allow upgrades from v5. Check out Mactopia and see.

Better explanation; it's slow because it's an operating system running within an operating on a platform is was never designed for. Also affecting performance will be the speed of your Mac. Your virtual PC processor speed will be approximately 1/4 the processor speed of your Mac with varying levels of RAM. What's more, it cannot access your video card and taps into the CPU for video.

VPC performance has nothing to do with Microsoft; it was slow even before MS bought it (even though it's quite chic to blame MS for everything)

VPC 5 was very very slow. Look here:

7.0 should be even faster.
