Netscape is nothing but a selected build of Mozilla with the icon changed and some useless bloat added. If you go download the latest version of Mozilla, you'll get something basically identical to Netscape, except that Mozilla gets updated more often, so you'll actually be more current.

With that said, the following browsers are better than Mozilla, and you'd be best off running one of these:

Safari (comes with the OS)
Camino
FireFox (basically a next-generation version of Mozilla, like Mozilla/Netscape, but better)
Shiira
OmniWeb

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Netscape 8 is no longer only based on Mozilla. The new one is a hybrid of Firefox and Internet Explorer with a completely different interface. Netscape is hoping to create a secure browser that can fall back on the IE engine for rendering problem.

Ah, I didn't know about that.

In that case, yeah, it wouldn't be likely to come to the Mac since the Mac doesn't have WinIE.

No great loss; just use one of the five browsers I mentioned. They are all quite good.

Netscape 8 is not bad. Much of the bloat has been removed and the user has the option of switching between IE and Firefox rendering engines. Most importantly, it offers yet another alternative to IE for Windows users, and in this case one which many Windows users are already familiar with.

The default theme of Netscape 8 is horrible, however, and currently there are no other themes available - it's not compatible with Firefox 1.0(.1) themes.

That may be so, but generally I'm more concerned about the bottom 90% of my browser. What the buttons look like doesn't matter much to me. Having said that, Netscape 8 isn't likely to become my primary Windows browser any time soon.

Yeah, as long as it's just how the buttons look, you're right, but if the menu bar is not below the title bar, as it is in all other Windows applications, but inside the title bar on the left of the close/minimize widgets, a bad theme affects usability, too.
