I have a small problem with Safari....
If I go to a website that requires authentication, rather than the pop-up to enter a user name and password I just get an immediate 401 / Not Authorised page.
If I use IE5.2 (bless it's ageing soul) or Firefox (or even Opera if I can bring myself to use it) then I get the authentication pop-up as expected.

I see I'm not the only one - this thread mentions the same issue briefly (before going off into a Firefox vs Opera vs Camino discussion) but I happen to like Safari (mainly because it looks nicer than Firefox !) so was wondering if anyone knew of a solution (or if we're waiting on 10.4 !)

Took a suggestion from another forums and re-installed Safari.....
Didn't fix the problem, but did give me the "localized string not found" so now it's time to delete webkit / reinstall (again) and repair permissions (again)

If only Firefox had decent chrome I'd dump Safari right now the mood I'm in !

Does anyone have any news on making authentication work ?
Wonder if 10.3.9 will fix it ?
Wonder if Tiger will fix it ?
Meantime I have to hop into Firefox every time I want to access a site with a challenge/response authentication.
It's driving me slowly mad !
