Ctrl-Click my desktop doesn't open System Preferences anymore, just generates the error -10660. The setting itself works OK when launched from within System Prefs.
I just created a new user, and there it works fine - so I suspect a corrupt file somewhere in my user Prefs perhaps.
Can anyone help ? TIA

I'm not sure I follow you?

Ctrl-clicking the desktop should by default just pop up a contextual menu, with 5 items to choose from. The only one related to System Preferences is 'Change desktop background...'. Is this the one you're having trouble with?

Or do you have some third-party software installed?

Sorry if I left you puzzled, but indeed - that's the one. Choosing it from the contextual menu should open System Preferences…
