Hey!
Im making a movie for a friends birthday...i want to make it like a documentary .. i will show it on the party with my powerbook and projector.
the things im asking are the things i didnt find in iMovie help .. so plese help me.
Can i import a transparent png or tiff and put it over the movie. You know, when a persons is speaking .. for the name tag.
Can i import animated gifs? I want to make a crown in illustrator and export it to gif and then put it on top of the movie .. you know .. the king of the party.
Lets say .. i have a clip where someone says "thats cool". I did copy and paste it so now i have 2 cilps with the same "thats cool". Is ther e a way to make the second clip play at 30% of the speed .. you know slow motion effect.
How to add a transition? I import a movie clip, but the transition after the movie clip and the transition "Eats" the end of the movie clip. It just attaches to it.
Why does iMovie always load fonts? On my powermac (g4/867mhz) i need to wait for minutes .. the powerbook doesnt load fonts.. why? I didnt fool around with preferences.
I have to finish the movie .. ehm .. saturday .. so if you got any
thanks!

Here are SOME answers...
You can import graphics and slides, but you cannot overlay the slide or graphic over a movie clip. This requires either Final Cut, or getting cute with QuickTime Pro. The way to do this is more involved than I can get into here...
Second, transitions will always "eat" the tail end of the clip you are leaving, and into the head of the clip you are going into. Leave extra frames around the clip if you don't want to miss something during the transition.
As for a name tag, look at the MUSIC VIDEO title. Put a cut where a speaker starts talking, then add the MUSIC VIDEO title with the speaker's name at that cut in the clip.
Hope this helps!

Oops, reread the post...
To slow down the copied clip, go to the timeline view where you see the two audio tracks. Highlight the clip you want to slow down, then move the slider bar below the timeline toward the turtle. Each mark slows the video down by 1/2. (Or, makes the clip twice as long.) Of course, the sound will also slow down, which may start to sound kind of funky.
Alternatively, BEFORE you slow the clip down, extract the audio from the clip, unlink the audio from the clip, THEN slow down the clip. Now you can position the sound where it seems the most appropriate, and it will play normal speed while the video is playing slow.
Good luck.

Yes, Transitions overwrite a portion of the clip. If you want to avoid this, the easiest way is to create a still frame of the last frame of the first clip and a still frame of the first frame of the second clip and transition over those. Extra time can be deleted out of the still frame to reduce them to essentially just enough time to cover the applied transition (plus a frame on either end). This can be nicely done or distracting, depending on your movie, because it does stop the action for the transition. If you fade out your audio just prior to the still and transition, it can turn out very nice.
Best when editing to leave some garbage time at the beginning and end of clips for possible use in transitions. You can always chop the garbage time out later.
