Coincidentally, I made the exact same decision tonight, and was about to post the same question. Then I thought, rather than waste the time of everyone here who's already read your first question (when asked by others in months past) and the answer, I'd do a forum search to see if anyone else had asked it. Sure enough, it'd been asked several times. and it turns out, there is an app or two that will make this very process of importing Safari bookmarks a breeze. And if you , too, take a minute or so to do a search, you'll find out what it is!
Maybe someone else can help out with the second part of your question.
Incidentally, after trying out Firefox, I decided -- for now -- to go with Camino instead. Will see how it goes after using it for awhile.
