I've followed ffmpegX install to the letter. I've put it applications, named my drives, and done everything. WHY do I get this error? I could find nothing on it. It does this for me on every Mac I try to install it on:

##cp: /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/mpeg2enc: No such file or directory

What kind of answer do you expect?!
The error says that you don't have mpeg2enc installed in /library/applicationsupport/ffmpegX/ and I think that error is correct...

If you think this error is wrong, then you should install again!

1. (don't be an asshole)
2. I AM IN THE INSTALL PROCESS. Meaning the installer starts to run then gives that error. THE FILE SHOULDN'T BE THERE.
3. There forums require that you be registered for 2 days before you can post, it's just a forum on another site.

Don't tell me where to post. I came here because maybe somebody would known. Go away. Don't post here.

Apple also has there own Mac OS X support forums. DO NOT post Mac OS X anything here. :-P Don't make stupid comments.

I get the same error. I don't think it downloaded right or can't read the file.... It's on my desktop but I think it's binary and needs to be compiled... Don't know how to do that.. sigh..

I think I did it manually. You put ffmpegX in place and run it. Then download all the things it tells you to.

Manually put these into the folder you said. The ffmpegX binaries should be unzipped first. All in all, you should have 16 items in /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/.

I haven't had any problem after doing that.

Thanks osxrules.. I didn't pay that close attention to the error message. I manually created the directories and then put them in and it seems to work now. Now the only problem I have is having it keep the same aspect ratio as the m2v file. I droped that in ffmpegX and the output came up to be a bit 'squished'. It looked like it took the letterboxed file and squished it width-wise a bit... How do you tell it to not do that, or In other words, keep the rectangular pixels?

The problem you were having is that Tiger is missing some of the directories that FFmpegX is looking to put files into: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewt...271389#1345705
You must create 3 directories.

1. /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX
2. /usr/local
3. /usr/local/share

1. May be easily created in Finder. To create 2. and 3. you may need Terminal.app (as they are hidden directories) and use the following commands

sudo mkdir /usr/local (enter your login password blindly and hit return)
sudo mkdir /usr/local/share
After that, you should be good to go to install the other binaries.

As for the aspect ratio problem, check that in the Video tab, your output resolution is the same as the input one. It'll give that in the first tab where you can drag & drop your files.

FFmpegX is really strange when it comes to encoding because it never seems to pick the right resolution if you change encoder. I think that may be to do with some formats like VCD should always be 320x240 but for things like XVid and DivX, it should copy the exact settings.

But yeah, just do what ReggieX said and make sure the resolution is the same in both. To add to the confusion, there is something called the aspect ratio, which scales the resolution so even if it says 320x240 in the video size tab, if you have a 16:9 autosize option set, it screws it up and might give an error like width not divisible by 16.

I just keep the autosize (aspect ratio) option set to 1:1 and pick the resolution manually.
