As many of you already know, when you load a blank CD into your burner, the OS asks you how you want to initialize the disc. It asks you to name the disc, and what format you want (standard, extended, universal, and sometimes iTunes audio disc). The last option is my reason for this post.

I've used iTunes and Disc Burner in both OS 9 and OS X. I am currently using OS 9, and when I load a blank CD into my burner I get the same question, name, format, etc.. And when I click on the format drop down list, there is no longer an "iTunes" option or "ISO" option, just the first 3 mentioned above. Now, I don't remember if they were options only in OS X, or a later version of iTunes (currently using 2.0.4), but I thought they were also options in OS 9.

Also, what exactly is the "universal" format and why does initialization fail with I try to use that option to format my CD?

Thanks in advance for the help...

As far as I can remember, those options were in OS X and not OS 9. However, it's been so many years now that I could easily be wrong.

I'm in the same boat with Charles. Don't recall either of those options being there, but it's been a couple of years since I used OS 9 regularly.

That's what I was thinking too. I guess that's just one of the many perks of OS X... lol. Thanks again.
