1. Somehow mail has begun displaying a ton of message traffic info at the beginning of every incoming message. I don't know what I did to cause this, but please help me make it stop.

2. How do I get the sidebar to display the messages sent, trash, and other folders? Somehow I made this disappear and would like it back.

1. You have activated the "Long Headers" option - simply press command-shift-H to revert back to short headers.

2. I'm not entirely sure what you have done here - have you simply hidden the Mailbox drawer? If so, press command-shift-M to show it again.

N.B. These options are under the View menu in Mail. You can also add buttons to the toolbar to toggle these as well - go to View>Customise toolbar to add them.

JKT:
Thanks for the prompt reply, even though I see it's dinner time in the UK. It's late morning here on the edge of the western world, so I'll have to wait til I get home from work to try your fixes.

When I change to default headers the change is not saved and it reverts to long headers.
Command-shift-M does nothing.
I'm puzzled...

Wait!
I changed the mail preferences which were apparently over-riding the changes I was trying to make, It's all good now.
