Using 10.3.8, just installed newest security patch.

And it seems to have messed up one of my email accounts

the account in question is a gmx.net freemail account

its one of those SMTP after POP type accounts, it was working just fine before the update.

Now i can't send mail through mail.app!

GRRRRR, is anybody else experiening anything similar to this?

I've tired SMTP-auth but that doesn't seem to be supported on their servers.

I know that the server is still working b/c on my windows desktop using outlook if i check login to incoming before sending it works just fine. I'm guessing apple changed some timings and it doesn't work anymore.

GMX definitely supports SMTP authentification.

Log in on the web page, go to "Optionen->Sicherheit" and switch from "SMTP after POP" to "SMTP authentification". Works fine here.

Are you using ameritech? Have you already dealt with the Port 25 problem, with ameritech blocking port 25 for sending, to fight spam?

2005-03 has been withdrawn for OSX-Server as it's breaks mail serving
2005-03 for OSX Client is still available but has some issues with WebKit which may be where your problem comes from (breaks Safari, Mail and third party apps like Adium which use WebKit).... to resolve the problems the solution seems to be;
1/ Download the Safari 1.2 installer (so you've got it on your machine !)
2/ find and delete Frameworks/WebKit and the Safari application
3/ using something like OnyX (have a search on MacUpdate.com) clear your caches
4/ For good measure repair permissions (not sure why, but everyone says to do it whenever anything weird happens)
5/ Reboot to make sure everything is cleared out
6/ Now take your Safari installer, run that, reboot and (again) repair permissions
fingers crossed everything works again

IMO Apple should have withdrawn both client and server security fixes given the number of people reporting issues here and in other forums, or at least made a public announcement of how to resolve the problems, ideally without such a time consuming and convoluted set of tasks.

The percentage of users affected may indeed be small, but of the group of 5 OSX users I'm in touch with on a daily basis 4 of us had the problem. The 5th has their G5 iMac back at the store having something replaced because their screen died !

Hi all,
I've kind of got the same problem with mail after the update, but in my case mail just quits during the scan for new mail. I took a look at the console logs and yes the webkit keeps popping up after mail dies. I'll try the safari tip and report back if all's well.
