My Palm calendar syncs with iCal; my contacts sync with Address Book; my Tasks/To-Dos also sync with iCal. But where are my Task/Notes supposed to live? Is there a simple freeware/shareware app I can buy that will do this? I don't want to use Entourage or Palm Desktop for something so simple.

the notes on my blackberry sync with Stickies, though I'm not sure if there's some Palm conduit that could do this for you - try a VT search.

versiontracker.com

one of a few really great places for shareware

(alternate: macupdate.com)

Oh, yes. I am quite familiar with versiontracker and macupdate -- I just am not used to seeing them referred to acronymically!

Anybody have specific experience with an app that does this, i.e., stores and syncs Palm notes/memos on the Mac?

funny, after posting i went looking.
i sync my palm tungsten t2 to my mac as well...
and would also like an alternative place for memos (i use palm desktop for that right now).

seems to SYNC both, the palm desktop is all there is...unless someone knows of an alternative...

you can get the palm software here

remember, u want the addresses & datebook going to the apple apps, and JUST the memos to the palm desktop app.

As my original post indicates, I'm aware of this possibility. It just seems like a lot of bother/overhead to use Palm Desktop, iCal and Address Book when all you want Palm Desktop to do is store the Notes/Memos. I'd prefer that a future version of iCal take care of this, of course.

i agree completely, just, for now, feels good to have the memos (as well as voicememos, and handdrawn notes) backed up.

the palm desktop is about 9megs, so no biggie.
but does seem ridiculous to have the app when all you want is your memos sync'd...

Well, you have to have Palm Desktop to sync with iCal and Address Book anyway, don't you? So what's the big deal?

I use SplashID (in fact I use all of the 'SplashWallet' suite). It's designed for passwords and privat info, but each entry also allows a full Palm memo, so it might do what you want. Syncs fine with the Desktop version of the software.

True. But Palm Desktop also holds contacts, appointments, and to-dos, making it seem like a bloated waste. Also, it takes a while to launch. But you're right — it's not really that big a deal.

MacNoteTaker is a Palm app and conduit that lets you store notes on the Mac as individual text files.

Wow! This app is awesome! Thank you so much for the lead. I'll never launch Palm Desktop again. Just what I prayed for.

The main limitation of MacNote Taker that I have run across, is that all of it's note files need to live inside of a folder buried deep in the Palm Users folder.

For me at least, this makes it cumbersome to access the note files on the Mac side.

Also, I have tried to contact the author with some questions but have not received any response, so I don't know if the software is being maintained...

I noticed that, too, so I immediately created an alias for that folder in my Documents directory. That more or less solves that issue for me.
