Firefox or Safari Problem with CPU running @ 100%

I have a 17" Powerbook with 1.33Ghz, 1GB ram, 80GB HD (OS X ver 10.3.8).... When I am using FireFox or Safari surfing Yahoo, Ebay, Amazon, or other sites with Flash ADs..... My Powerbook's CPU runs at 100% and gets very hot.....
When I use my Laptop (windows based) at work it do not act this way, with FireFox....
As I am writing this thread the fan came on... and I am using Safari.....
Can anyone help me? Please! My IMac G5 runs fine with the brouser(s)

Try repairing permissions in Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
Maybe trash the .plist files?
I think people need more information

Flash is notoriously CPU-hogging on the Mac. Use Adblock on Firefox to block those stupid ads. Go to Tools -> Extensions. On Safari there is something called PithHelmet. Try Googling it.

Firefox plus Adblock is heaven.
Also make sure you have the latest version of the Flash plugin.

PS I ran the disk utility and got Ad blocker for Firefox.... It still works at 100%

Also on safari, you can disable the plug-ins to get rid of flash banners:
Safari Preferences > Security tab > Enable plug-ins
Problem is though, you have keep doing that if you are visiting flash based websites.

the problem is that running Safari or Firefox with flash ads should not make the CPU go to 100%. i've had this Safari window open for ages, and I still am using "only" 50-60% of my CPU (with iTunes and Adium and various other small apps). I'm no where close to your computer in specs by the way.

It could also be multiple Flash ads on one page.
Is Pith Helmet still a separate application that needs to run along Safari? And disabling fundamental browsing tools like plugins and the cache seems inelegant when there are other browsers with tools that accomplish the same thing without such bad side effects.

Bad side effect?? The latest build of pith is the best yet. Just bury the icon and you're good to go.
