I switched recently from PC to Mac. I've an iBook using OS X. Before, in my PC days using Outlook Express, I was able to request receipt confirmation of an email message I sent. I was also able to mark a message I was sending with varying degrees of "Importance." I can't find any way to this this in Mail. Am I missing something real simple or are these things not possible in OS X?

Thanks for any response in advance.

Mail doesn't support these things. Entourage probably does, but I don't use it, so I'm not sure.

Also note that the "return receipt" function actually is handled by the receiving email server, and support for it outside of Exchange is spotty at best. Reason being: it is used extensively by spammers to figure out valid email addresses.

And personally I hate "priority" flags. Some people like them, but not me. (I do see how they could be used validly, but have never seen it in the wild)

I think that thunderbird supports both of these.

There's a plug-in called MailPriority that gives you return receipts and priority settings in Mail. However, I agree with the previous posters that these features are of questionable usefulness.
