Does anyone have any suggestions on how to speed up printing with Laserjets? I have two, a 2100M and a 1220, which are my main printers. I've been using Photoshop 7 on WinXP for the past year or so with success. I just bought PS CS yesterday for my Mac (Powerbook G4 12", 1.33ghz, 1.25gb RAM). I liked using it a lot until I got to printing. WOW! The same file that takes 15-20 seconds to print in WinXP takes 5-10 minutes on the Mac in CS. The files are 600dpi B&W and grayscale.

You are probably running out of memory on the printer. I would guess that the CS suite is producing a better ps file, and thus letting the printer do more of the work, and your printer does not really have the space for the full file (which it then process into the smaller raster file it needs to print).
A work-around would be to print to pdf on the computer, and then print the resulting pdf. Not a great solution... but...

Thanks, larkost, for responding.
Sorry, the file size was a typo. They are 1-6mb (whew). I just printed the largest one (6.1mb), it took 15 minutes. I located one of the problems, however--under Image>Mode it was still set to RGB. Reducing that to Bitmap helped it to print in 2 minutes. Still 8 times longer than Windows but far better. The file size was reduced to 1.2mb as well.
This particular file originally had 4 layers but I merged them into one and saved.

If you are printing Postscript, then any difference in print time is solely due to the printer and not the application or operating system. Both Windows Photoshop and Mac Photoshop are sending a Postscript program to the printer. If there is a difference in print times, look for differences in the method by which the computer is connected to the printer and the printer itself. Is one printer connected with ethernet while the other is wireless? That would make a huge difference.
Also, the 1220 is not a Postscript printer. The computer has to generate every do and send it over to the printer. This will probably be slower than the 2100M, which prints Postscript.

Chabig--
Both printers are connected directly to the computers by USB. I use a physical switch to switch both printers from the PC to the Mac when I want to print.

Wiz...
Could it be that your Mac has USB 1.1 and the Windows machine has USB 2.0?

Actually, its the other way around. The Mac has USB 2.0 and the Windows machine has 1.1.
I wonder if anyone else is using PS CS with a Laserjet 1200/1220 and 10.3?

I printed the same one-page document using PS CS from my old PowerMac G3 desktop (533mhz G4, 320mb RAM using 10.2.8) which is connnected to an HP 1012 printer. It printed in 40 seconds! One-third of the time it took on my 1.33mhz PB G4 with 1.25gb RAM an 10.3.8. As far as I can tell there are only two possible explanations--either 10.3 or the printer drivers. The 1012 drivers are non-postscript but more up to date. Anyone got any other theories?
