Why the PC gets verison 9.0 of AOL while Mac's AOL remains the same for few years? Why?

I believe they've got a new one coming out soon. But at any rate, the two versions are completely unrelated to each other, so I don't know what your point is.

I think he meant the AOL program, not the instant messenger.

People still use AOL? In the 21st century?

I just had to install AOL to get dial-up access at my parents' house while waiting for the DSL installation. Agreed, it sucks. Their tech support is horrible, as well as all the other reasons listed above. Free internet until DSL gets here tempted me to do it....
I'd like to know: is there any way to bypass AOL's software and just dial directly from the menu bar? I went to internet connect and entered the phone #, username, password, etc. When I click connect from the menu bar it dials, connects, but then says "Authentication Failed". Is there any way to work around it?
I seriously hate that AOL interface. Why are they still trying? Are there really people so naive that they would need all of that in order to check their e-mail, news, etc.? (LOL)
