I tried opening 500 pictures each 1600X1200 and it took a very long time. What programs do you use to view large pictures? Is iPhoto the best alternative? I don't need to edit any pictures... just view them without slowing the computer down so much. And when I open the folder containing those 500 pictures it takes so long for each thumbnail to draw itself... any way around that? Thanks.

Preview for viewing, list view for the folder.

I did use Preview. That's the only thing I've tried. With preview it takes such a long time for the pictures to load. And it slow the whole computer down. And I would like to see a preview of the picture before I open it, which is why I use thumbnails. *sigh* Windows was so much easier for just looking at pictures.

These are photos you are taking from a digicam? Canon and Nokia's software packages for that come with their cameras (and that I think are available to download on their websites) are supposed to be pretty good, but I have no idea how fast they are.

Yeah they are digital camera pictures. I tried Canon's File Viewer Utility and it works good... Any other recommendations?
