Versiontracker, but not for any particular reason, just b/c it's what I've always used.

I use macupdate because if I want to visit the developer's site you can without having to go through a few other steps.

Versiontracker got so incredibly crappy 2 years ago when they started adding a second page to download something so I went to MacUpdate and like it 10x more.

MacUpdate, because of this handy feature: Search for anything by adding its name to the URL.
For example, to search for iTunes, you'd type this:
http://www.macupdate.com/itunes

I have always used Version Tracker, but thank you for pointing out that handy feature.

As a developer, I've noticed that I get more downloads from VersionTracker than MacUpdate. VersionTracker has also been a bit more responsive to emails and product updates than MacUpdate. But purely from a user's standpoint, MacUpdate wins hands-down.

I actually were quite happy with VT and even subscribed the last two years. However when my subscription ran out this year, MacUpdate did a re-designed layout that fixed most of my gripes with it. Finally I don't download that much software anymore, so I don't need to spend money subscribing for such a service.

I used VersionTracker until they started adding all the extra steps to get to anything. I find MacUpdate's interface gets in the way much less often.

I preferred VT over MU but the last update kills the loading time. It is one of the slowest pages to load, even rivalling deviantart.

Better yet, install SafariStand. Then simply enter into the URL bar:
mu appName
I switched to MacUpdate about 2 or 3 years ago when VT inserted that extra downloads page. MU is cleaner and easy to use, IMO. I rarely visit VT, and that's usually just to read the product reviews.

I use Shiira for that.
Unfortunately, often times you may be away from your personal Mac and may be in a computer lab or somewhere else, and then you can't rely on the "mu" shortcut being set. You can rely on the URL trick, though.

I use VersionTracker with my free VT Plus subscription I got through my .Mac membership. It lets you avoid the extra download page as well as get product update and review alerts through e-mail. I like being able to see the number of downloads for just the latest version along with the overall number of downloads, plus the whole history of versions and releases.
