I own and operate a custom digital printing lab. We are in the process of purchasing a ZBE Chromira 30 digital printer. It is an awesome printer with one downfall...no Mac interface and no future for one. Spend 125K+ for a printer and we have all G5 workstations. I would like to not perform all image editing on the G5's and have to move the file over to a XP box for print preparation, so here is my question:
If we are working in a color managed OS X environment with Gretag Macbeth tools for calibration and profiling, will color output be the same running software under VPC 7 and XP or 2k?
Basically can I still apply a monitor profile under VPC?

I just fired up my copy of VPC: you can definitely apply a monitor profile under VPC. However, I have no idea if the emulation of the video card and graphics system will play havoc with your calibrated profiles.

"Q: Since Chromira is PC based, how can I print images from my MAC?
A: Chromira can print RGB TIFF files in both MAC and PC formats. MAC images can be brought to Chromira via 1) Network, 2) Disk, or 3) CD. When using a network, it is necessary for the MACs to communicate on a PC network. This is most commonly done via a Windows XP Server in the lab. The Windows XP Server will communicate with both PCs and MACs. Alternately, there are several software packages available which allow a MAC to communicate on a PC network. If the images are brought to Chromira on disk (usually a ZIP disk), it is necessary to use one that is PC-formatted. The MAC can use both PC and MAC formatted disks, but Chromira can only read PC formatted disks."

I have no real knowledge of this printer, but this is what Google found.

The functionality of the mac on is strictly for image delivery to the embedded XP Server built into the machine. I can drop images into the server and it will print, however all CMY, and density control, page layout, packages, etc is all accessed via a software app, this is what I want to run on VPC.
Thanks for the comments!
