I keep seeing the small F10 icon in people's screenshots so I googled it and found out that it's a app. launcher. I currently use launchbar and can't do without it. I find myself hitting CMD + Spacebar even when i'm on a pc. Just wanted to know what the differences are.

Launchbar lets you use keyboard commands. F10 lets you open any application or document from the menu bar.

LB is good for what it does but I prefer F10. It's very easy to customize and you can change the looks of it very easily and configure the files the way you want or let the app sort out everything. Also, no need to remember key commands for every application and document in your Mac.

I also like having quick access to documents and my favorites folder with my most-used apps.

I hide my dock and almost never use it these days.

Essentially these two are the same program, just with different presentations - you want to be able to point and click at what you want, use F10. You want to be able to quickly type a few letters and you're there, use Launchbar.

I use launchbar and its great - even better now its v4. Couldn't get on with F10, but maybe that's because of my long LB history!

Isn't it amazing how quickly and completely one get hooked on LB?
Whenever i have to work an a mac without it, I think it's broken. (Of course, with a PC I know it's broken...).

My two issues with LB (which is a fine app nevertheless) is I hate having to type in commands to launch an app (might as well use the dock for that) and having to remember each and everything.
I much prefer having everything in a drop-down menu, especially the things I want. And documents as well is added feature.

If you haven't tried them, give them both a test drive and see which one fits your needs and wants best. You can't really go wrong with either.

I am working like you. Once you type a lot with the keyboard, it slows you down to grab the mouse, aim and click. So launchbar is the right app.

If you have the mouse already in your hand, F10 might be faster.

I personally think that launchbar is one of the greatest software ideas I know. Very clean and efficient, goes out of my way and does a great and extremely fast job.

Workerbee... haha yeah sometimes I think the macs at school are broken. I keep hitting the commands and nothing... then slowly I come to a startling conclusion, wait... what are you trying to tell me... you don't come standard with launchbar??? noooOOOOo ... i'm used to typing out commands all the time. It's just much faster than having to click around. Guess i'll drop F10... the icon looks cool though.
