I was thinking about buying QT Pro to use with iMovie. What can QT Pro do for me? Are there any big advantages?

The main thing it will do for you is allow you to save stuff as DV Stream which iMovie can then import. Back in the day (iMovie 2 land) iMovie would only import DV Stream and perhaps .mov files (can't remember). I'm not sure if this has changed, with the latest versions. I know that iMovie4 will import 3gp files directly for me but I have QT pro so I don't know if it is because of this. So perhaps it isn't as necessary?

At this point time, I would wait to buy QT Pro after Tiger is out.

Quicktime Pro just seems like a non-crippled version of Quicktime, something that should come with every Mac. I mean, how embarrassing is it to play a movie on your 20" widescreen iMac for your Windows-using friends, only to explain that you can't play it full-screen without paying money?

(Yes, I know there's VLC, but that's not the point.)

Opening a new player window in QT7 requires the pro version.

there are editing and export options in pro that, for me anyway, make it worthwhile.
as far as full-screen viewing, there are freeware apps at versiontracker.

only drag: qt7 pro requires a new license! so i have to buy tiger, AND qt7 pro
(the qt6 serial # will not work in 7)

as a side note am thinking about simply having my $ direct-deposited into apple's account...

What you mean is that creating a new (blank) movie requires QTPro. Of course adding content to that movie always required QTPro. Nothing to see here....
