Hey guys,

I have multiple problems to watch videos online, on plenty of different websites. It's usually written 'unable to connect to proxy server'. Any idea, suggest, help. I think the files are in the windows media player format.

Hope you'll be able to help me,

David

It is probably that the sites are streaming either with Windows Media 10, or are using the DRM which Microsoft has not included in the Mac version of Windows Media.

Can you use VLC to open the links?

Why not give us some links so we can try it out and see if we have the same problems?

The killsometime one works perfectly here -
400MHz G3 iMac DV,
10.3.9,
Safari
WMP 9 installed
RealPlayer 10.

the basketball video is an ASF, which is WMP. Are you sure you have WMP installed properly?

My PowerBook plays the video just fine. Read analogika's post carefully.

Well, it just doesn't work for me. I have a powerbook and the latest Mac version of WMP and Real... everything is up to date, but I can't see any video on Internet using WMP

What are your preferences in Windows Media Player? I checked everything but honestly, can't find what's wrong with my Mac.

The WMP video link works great here too (ref knocked unconcious by Argentine player). I'm using a cable modem right now which works great. However, I've run into problems on dialup with WMP Mac - increasing the buffer from default to 15-20 seconds usually fixes that. Anyway, my current WMP prefs are at the default except the connection tab is set to "ISDN, DSL, or Cable Modem."

FWIW, I'm using Safari as my web browser. However, I just tried that link again using Firefox 1.03 and it works great. The WMP video is embedded in the web page - the same as with Safari.

If you're still having problems you may want to consider downloading WMP9 Mac from Microsoft's web site and installing it again.

Java update in Software Update, maybe that helps.

I don't know if you found a fix but I had the same problem. For some reason the defalut setting in WMP prefs has a proxy checked off, uncheck it and enable http. This worked for me in safari and 10.4.

Does anyone know when Microsoft are going to release WMP 10 for the Mac (if ever)?

I could view wmv's at CNN on my powerbook but not on our iMac. Found that on the iMac if you look in

iMac>Library>Internet plugins

there was a folder called Disabled plugins. That is where the Windows media player plug in was hiding. Put it in with the rest of the plugins, restarted Safari and now I can view wmv's on CNN again.

Do notice though that the first time you attempt this on CNN it says it doesn't recognize if you have WMP but lets you play through to the video. The next time you click on a video, it remembers your setup. Must be a Safari thing on CNN or that we are not really using WMP 10.
