For the past couple of days I have been posting my queries about a G4 PPC in the Macnn Forums (but not in this forum) that I now actually have. The machine turns out to be a Quicksilver 800 Mghtz. It has two HD's and two pci cards. Yes I've turned it on. Yes it works. But the drives seem to have an unusual build of Jaguar in that they both contain the OS X build the master drive according to Apple System Profiler (ASP) is a 38 gig. This drive has what appears what you would expect in a system, four folders - Library, Applications, Users and System Folders. But the other drive (the slave) and according to ASP is a 43 gig, but has a heap of folders that should probably be on the other drive more likely in the System and or Library folders - all of these folders have a heavy black dot near the left hand corner of the folder icons. According to the seller one of the drives is a 7200rpm and the other a 5400rpm, problem is I don't know which is which. I opened the machine and guess what, all the label info on the drives are scrubbed clean off. This means I can't tell which is which. ASP gives me no joy there is a dribble of letters and numbers, Get info command told me more. Anyone know what Z654 - 4682 means ? (That no. appeared in the comments window of the 43 gig of get info.)

The machine arrived like in the original box with a wad of Apple cd's (8), which means I can do a clean install - great - but hey dude I want to install it on the 7200rpm, so how can I find this out ?

Of course an easier solution might be to go get another drive but that would be too much of a financial strain on me right now. By the way I'm presently accessing a friends iMac that I have been sorting out as I am not quite sure the modem in the G4 (V.92) is compatiable with my isp, the person who can tell me this won't be available until next week, besides I need to sort out these nigglies with the G4 ?

The pci cards according to ASP says that one card is named pci 37a,1 ...ah whats that ?

The other is called ATY Blue Stone Planet 32 Meg VRAM - not to worried about that one just yet it works fine.

So the upshot of all this - Does an App exist that can provide more detailed info on these components ???

The faster one is the 7200rpm one. Duplicate a big file on both drives and see which goes faster.
